Dairy Boom Drives Growth
14 Oct 2008

Milfos International is expanding its operations with a new warehouse and manufacturing centre in Hamilton.

The company has bought a 12,500sq. m site on Kahikatea Drive for the building.

The new premises will cover all warehousing, logistics and manufacturing operations.

Milfos managing director Jamie Mikkelson says that due to strong growth both domestically and internationally the factory has been under an ever-increasing workload.

‘This expansion will not only allow us to improve our level of customer service but also create a state-of-the-art environment for our staff’.

Milfos is a New Zealand owned and operated company with the four shareholder directors actively involved in the business.

Established in 1987 the company is celebrating its 21st birthday and is enjoying the current dairy boom not only in New Zealand but in many markets around the world.

The company is now offering high-end technology products specifically for swing-over herringbone and rotary parlours.

Mikkelson says the uptake of technology products such as milk meters, cluster removers, oestrus and mastitis detection systems has been encouraging.

‘We knew that main-stream installation of farm automation was only a matter of time due to the value they offer.

‘A tight labour market, a growing number of large herds, the price of cows and record milk payouts are all key drivers behind the increased uptake.’

Mikkelson says the new premises will incorporate a unique training facility for increasing skills for an increasing number of dealers and technicians from around the world.

‘It’s a great time for Milfos right now and we must invest in the development of our products and people.’

Milfos designs and manufactures its own proprietary product range for milking cows, sheep and goats.

It employs over 120 staff and its core competencies include stainless steel, mild steel, electronics and plastics.

The product range is distributed throughout New Zealand and a growing number of markets worldwide.
